Ousted Hamidia employees seek reinstatement

Sensing a possible reprieve amid ongoing protests at JP Hospital, ousted employees of Hamidia Hospital turned to the Collector’s office on Tuesday to press for their demands.

On January 20, some 270 employees were abruptly dismissed from Hamidia Hospital. The Department of Medical Education attributed the mass termination to overstaffing and budgetary constraints, sparking a protest at the hospital.

Now, the dismissed staff have approached the Collector, hoping for intervention. In a letter, they claimed their salaries had been withheld for four months, making it difficult to run their households.

They further alleged that they were terminated not because of budget issues but because they demanded their rightful dues. The protest, they said, had led to their removal as an act of retaliation.

The letter also stressed that many of those removed had served the hospital faithfully for over a decade, some even during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. The employees have urged the Collector to ensure they receive their pending pay and are reinstated.
