Chancellor of Oriental University Kl Thakral while describing the recent row over reservation as unwarranted has favoured review of the current reservation policy as suggested by the RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat.
Describing the row over Bhagwat's statement as unwarranted and uncalled for, Thakral said it was high time the country must review as how far the reservation policy has benefited the lower, backward classes or it has virtually done harm in the general public interest.
Taking a leaf from Wiston Churchil's contention on periodic review of policy decisions, the chancellor said with changing times, circumstances and social conditions, there has to be a mechanism to review policy decisions from time to time and
make necessary amendments, if required in the existing policies so as to make it more impact full and conducive to the interest of general masses.
Thakral said the reservation policy more than doing any good to the deprived and underprivileged sections of the society, has in fact divided people on caste and religions lines. Those who were supposed to be benefited from these policies continue to wallow in poverty, instead benefits of this reservation policies have primarily been derived by those who are socially ad economically affluent among the backward and poor classes.
