A long pending organisational reshuffle in Madhya Pradesh Congress has been accelerated after the bypoll defeat and several satraps are busy lobbying for their followers in the poll.
The polling and announcement of results will take place from Dec 10 to 12. With 12 candidates in the fray, the election for the Congress youth wing in Madhya Pradesh has turned into tussle among the party seniors.
The main contest in between newly elected Agar MLA and former NSUI state president Vipin Wankhede, Vikrant Bhuriya, son of former union minister Kantilal Bhuria, former MP Premchand Guddu’s son Ajit Bairasi, former MLA Lakhan Singh’s nephew Sanjay Yadav and NSUI state spokesperson Vivek Tripathi.
However, Wankhede with his strong ground connect and active contact with young party leaders, is seen as the frontrunner for the post. To add it was Wankhde who had started a campaign to get NSUI members into Youth Congress.
Senior NSUI volunteer Vivek Tripathi too has been single-handedly shouldering the party student wing activities for close to a decade now.
Meanwhile, party seniors too are throwing weight behind young turks.
Former Youth Congress president and party state working president Jitu Patwari is reportedly lobbying hard for Sanjay Yadav while Rajya Sabha MP Digvijaya Singh is throwing weight behind Dr Vikrant Bhuria, son of his old supporter Kantilal Bhuria.
There are 116 candidates for the 11 and 56 posts of general secretaries and secretaries.
The process of electing YC head was started in MP in year 2011 when Priyavrat Singh was elected the president and he later went on to became a minister in Kamal Nath government. Incumbent Kunal Chaudhary was elected in 2013 but he remained the YC state head till now as no polls held in later years.
The process of poll had started in March this year but got shelved amid the political turbulence in the state. Besides YC, organisational polls of NSUI are also due in Madhya Pradesh Congress for long.
