leader of the Opposition in the State assembly Ajay Singh has demanded from the Chief Minister to immediately seek resignation from Minister Narottam Mishra, as he could not get any relief from the High Court in the case related to his being declared not eligible.
In case, the Chief Minister fails to do so, State Assembly Speaker and Governor should initiate process to terminate his membership from the House, Singh demanded.
Singh further said that the Election Commission of India (ECI) had in its verdict over the case related to paid news, stated that Mishra would not be eligible for contesting elections for three years.
On this, Mishra had moved to the High Court, but the court, did not provide any relief to him, which clearly means that it has upheld the decision of the ECI. In such a situation, Mishra does not have any right to continue on the post, Singh alleged.
Earlier, during the hearing at Gwalior bench of the High Court, Singh stated that, the court had asked the ECI to continue with its process. Besides, the court had also stated that the State Assembly Speaker should also honour the ECI’s verdict and take necessary action on his part, Singh said, adding that in this light, the Governor should also take action appropriately.
Singh claimed that all the efforts of Mishra for saving himself under the cover of legal process have failed.
He also demanded that the Minister should also be punished for contempt of ECI verdict and the High Court.
