Open defecation is now a thing of past as no one defecates in the open in village Gadarwada in Chhindwara district. Even if someone tries to do so mistakenly, a team of commando forces him to abandon the act by continuously blowing on whistles. This has become possible through efforts of Swachchh Bharat Abhiyan and the district administration.District Collector Mahesh Chandra Choudhary has launched a campaign to extend Swachchhata Abhiyan to every village in the district.
Under the campaign, when he visited village Gadarwada in Amarwada development block, he motivated people to construct toilets in their houses and informed about assistance being given for this by the government. His initiative was supported by the villagers and toilets stared being constructed in one house after another in a short span of time. The process did not end here. The villagers constituted motivators team for monitoring and children commandoes’ team to ensure that practice of open area defecation stops forever.
The teams inform people about demerits of open area defecation. Children commandoes’ team has played important role in ending habit of open area defecation.Water problem of the village has also been solved. The collector got started piped water scheme in the village immediately. Now, this village has become claimant of being a Nirmal Gaon. Due to it, it will get more facilities for development. Now the villagers have realised as to how much benefits can be earned by shunning one bad habit. Impressed by this, people of nearby villages have also come forward to make efforts to end open area defecation there.
