'Only RBI not responsible for illegal chit-fund firms'

RBI's Department of Non-Banking Supervisions Veena Srivastava said that only RBI cannot be held responsible for taking action against illegally functioning chit-fund companies, all sections of the society including media should perform their roles in making people aware of the ill-effects of lucrative benefits by companies. “In this connection, we have been organizing awareness or sensitization programmes throughout the country,” she added.

To a query as why the RBI has been maintaining distance from common people or media, Shrivastava stated that RBI has its policy of functioning and accordingly, nobody is allowed to meet officials of different departments. She informed that there is one communication department that deals with media, but she stated that mediapersons are not allowed to interact directed to get versions on different issues. “You please drop a letter by putting address- RBI, Bhopal. It would reach us and we would reply,” she advised.
