Not being able to express oneself increases loneliness," said renowned medical psychologist Dr. Kakoli Roy in 'Suljhan' on Sunday.
Suljhan, a free online counselling session organized by Sarjana Academy for Design and Fine Arts and Helpbox, discussed 'increasing loneliness among youth and housewives'.
Dr. Kakoli Roy explained the causes and treatment of loneliness in very simple words, after which the questions of the people present were resolved. First of all he explained the difference between solitude and loneliness.
She told that solitude we choose from our choice to be positive and calm, whereas loneliness is a negative emotion that everyone faces at some point or the other. In the past days, loneliness has increased more among the youth and housewives due to continuous stay at home.
The reason for this has been being quarantined, frequent visits to the new location like hospital, illness and death of close relatives, acquaintances and friends, etc. If you are troubled by loneliness, then you will have to make efforts to get out of it and you will also have to find ways.
In loneliness, people start feeling that we have no one of our own with whom we can share anything. Thinking that people are ignoring us, the conversation with people starts decreasing. Young people start comparing their friends with their future, profession, studies etc. They start feeling sad and disappointed due to lack of partner or girlfriend or boyfriend or even breakup, due to these reasons self-confidence starts to weaken and this is a big reason for loneliness.
On getting rid of loneliness, Dr. Kakoli Roy said that work on increasing your self-stream. Many friends are not necessary, only one should be one who can be trusted.
Start respecting yourself which will increase positivity. Resume a hobby or favorite skill. It would be better to involve yourself in social work.
Giving something to society brings us to it, brings happiness and above all gives us a pleasant feeling, contentment and it removes loneliness. The best way is to make a list of acquaintances and friends and talk to someone on the phone every day by accident. This will also let you know that your friend is feeling the same way and you will be able to overcome loneliness very soon.
According to George Bernard Shaw, 'People die long ago, but burials go much later. This gap between death and burial is the tragedy of loneliness, in which a man suffocates. The facilitator of the programme was Sunil Shukla of Sarjana and the questions of the participants were put by Sunil Avkarkar, Helpbox.
