One more tiger was killed by a speeding train on Friday night between Budhni and Midghat sections in Sehore district. This is the fourth such case reported in the State in the last two months.
Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) AP Singh said on Saturday that the carcass of the tigress was spotted near the track by railway staffers, who alerted police and forest officials. The incident took place between Budhni and Midghat sections.
On getting information, Chief Conservator of Forest and other forest officials reached the spot and the postmortem was conducted.
Budhni range SDO UN Singh said that they got information on Saturday morning that a tigress was found dead near Midghat. The tigress might have come out of the forest in search of water and was run over by the train. Till now we are not sure as to which train crushed the animal.
This is the fourth tiger death reported in the State in the last two months. Earlier on February 23, an adult tiger and a leopard were found dead under mysterious circumstances at the same spot. In 2015, an adult male tiger was crushed by a speeding train at the same spot. The animal died due to undue delay on the part of the department's rescue team.
Meanwhile, sources said that a wrong chain fencing the mid-ghat railway track might have resulted in frequent deaths on the spot.
