Medical services at the MY hospital crippled on Tuesday with nurse and nursing staff of the hospital going on an indefinite strike from Wednesday after end of the deadline given by the superintendent of the MY hospital.
The nursing staff of the MY hospital were supposed to go on strike for their various long-pending demands from January 23. They however, deferred their strike for five days as the MY hospital administration bought five days time to negotiate with the government for their demands.
The MY Hospital Nursing Staff Association president Ramesh Jaat said they had deferred their strike for five days as the MY hospital Superintendent Dr PC Thakur assured them that he had already held talks with the state health secretary regarding their demands and it would be conceded within five days. However, even after lapse of the five days, there has been no headway from the hospital administration to concede their demands, thereby prompting us to go on indefinite strike.
Uncertainty over strike by the nursing staff continued at the hospital till 10 am as the Association officials thought that the hospital administration would make an announcement regarding acceptance of their demands. With the hospital administration buying more time for the acceptance of their demands, majority of the nurses and nursing staff decided to go on indefinite strike following association’s meet at 10.30 am. Barring senior nurses and those associated with the emergency services, almost all the nursing staff and nurses gathered outside the hospital and sat on indefinite stir unless and until their demands are met.
The nurses sitting on stir said that they had been demanding payment of their outstanding salary increments and departmental promotion since long, the hospital administration had not been paying any heed to their demands. The Association president said three salary increments of the nursing staffs are due, where as the same had been paid to the nursing staff of Rewa, Sagar and Gwalior medical colleges. Similarly he said the Association had been demanding departmental promotion of the nursing staff since long as it has been 20 years since the last DPC had been done.
Meanwhile, the MY hospital administration sensing trouble on account of the proposed stir of the nursing staff, has made an alternative arrangement by requisitioning services of the students of the nursing college so as to ensure that patients undergoing treatment at the hospital are not subjected to any inconveniences, the stir appeared to have visible impact on the medical services of the hospital on Tuesday.
