After the increased number of accidents in the BRTS corridor across the city during late night hours, the administration has decided to ban the entry of vehicles in the corridor after 11 pm. Notably, during late night hours, it was witnessed that in absence of buses, other vehicles ply on the route that causes accidents. The Traffic cops have been directed to put barricades blocking the entry of vehicles in the corridor. With the help of barricades, the BRTS corridor would be blocked from both the sides of the stretch, which is more prone to accidents. As per routine, the plying of buses starts from 6 am and continues till 10 pm and by 10.30 pm, the buses reach the depot. Volunteers would be deployed to keep an eye on the movement of the vehicles from 11 pm to 6 am.

Notably, the instructions came after Mayor Alok Sharma, who took cognisance about the entry of vehicles in the corridor leading to accidents and several casualties in the last one year. After discussing with the officials, an arrangement has been proposed. The arrangement would be applied from April 6 and the volunteers  deployed at night would remove the barricades in the morning at around 6 am, he added. Around 20 accidents have been reported in Bairagarh-lalghati stretch and Barkatullah-Misrod corridor and around half a dozen people have died in them.

Besides, 15 persons sustained minor to major injuries. The dedicated BRTS corridor is declared as Zero Tolerance Zone and except low floor bus, no other vehicle is allowed on the BRTS and in case if a vehicle meets accident, the victim driver would not be able to claim insurance and on the other side, if a vehicle is caught moving inside the BRTS corridor, it would slapped with a penalty of Rs1,000. The barricades would be installed on BRTS stretch from Bairagarh to lalghati, Kilol Park to MlB College, MlB College to Polytechnic square, Banganga Square to Roshanpura, Board Office to Mansarowar, Maansarowar to Habibganj, AMPRI square to Barkatullah square, BU square to Asharam Nagar trisection and till Misrod.
