The medical college professors are under pressure from the new provisions included by the State Government, under which they would not be able to refuse transfers on promotion.
So far, the professors instead of getting promotions, wished to remain at the same place. However, this used to cause problems in the medical colleges situated in different parts of the State.
Now, the State Government has come out with a new provision under which the professors would have to submit an affidavit to the Director of Medical Education (DME) stating that they would be ready to move anywhere in the State on promotion.
Several Medical professors who are in promotion line have to submit their affidavit but most of the professors used refuse accepting the new guidelines.
Besides, the State Government is facing problems in filling the vacancies of professor and associate professor in Government Medical Colleges which are still lying vacant for long. In such a situation, the Medical Council of India (MCI) declines to provide recognition to the Government institutions.
After the colleges have received autonomous status, all the medical colleges’ recruitment process
is completed through autonomous committee.
Earlier, the autonomous committee did not have powers to transfer the medical teachers. To avoid the shortage of medical teachers, the government recruited teachers are transferred to other colleges. Government has appointed 10 per cent medical teachers directly and some of them are going to retire soon.
DME Dr GS Patel said that those teachers recruited through autonomous committee, should be ready for transfers. On the contrary, the Medical Professors who had been reluctant so far for getting transferred, would also have to move out of the city. “We are taking the affidavit from Medical Teachers so that it will reduce the problem in government Medical Colleges at different places,” he added.
