The Neurosurgey Department at Bansal Hospital, Bhopal has made the endoscopy and neurosurgery of the patients much easy. Notably, all the advanced equipments of neurosurgery are now available at the neuorological department of the hospital.
Till now, patients had to go to metropolitan cities for getting such surgical procedures at more cost and discomfort.
Here on Wednesday a neurosurgery was performed successfully at the fully equipped neurosurgery department of Bansal Hospital. Notably, Rahul (name changed) was suffering from headaches for the past two years. This had increased significantly since last six months. He was diagnosed with neurocysticercosis – a type of infection of brain. MRI scan of brain revealed a cyst in the brain which was causing blockage of the water pathways and thereby resulting in headache.
Surgery being the only option for him Dr SK Jain, Consultant Neurophysician, consulted Dr Nitin Garg, Consultant Neurosurgeon at Bansal Hospital.
Dr Nitin Garg informed the patient about the feasibility of removing this cyst by endoscopic method safely and thereby avoiding the morbidity of open surgery. The cyst was removed successfully by making a small opening of only 1.6 cm in the skull through which the endoscope was inserted. Patient recovered well and was walking from second day and was discharged on the third day.
Dr Nitin Garg who performed this surgery successfully is experienced in endoscopic neurosurgery and in using navigation systems for neurosurgical procedures. He was assisted by Dr Deepa and Dr laxmikant who administered anaesthesia for this procedure.
Advances in biomedical engineering have made availability of smaller endoscopes feasible.
