Now, Damoh gets copious water

With the efforts of the State Government, the scenario in Damoh town has changed completely. The place that earlier faced problems of drinking water, has started receiving copious water brought from far away. This year, lifeline of Damoh city Raj Nagar lake had dried up and presented scene of a football ground. Water was being supplied from Kopra rivers once a fortnight. This river also started drying up by January. Making emergency arrangements, Nagar Palika laid a pipeline from Byarma river upto Jujharghat dam built by Water Resources Department. A festive atmosphere prevailed in the city when water pumped by 325 horsepower pumps from the dam gushed into Raj Nagar Talab on March 27.

Drinking water supply in the city began from first week of April. Now water is being supplied every alternate or third day instead of fortnight. Distribution system is being improved for daily water supply. Water Resources Department has opened gates of Gopalpura, Kaniyaghat, Imaliyaghat and Surdehi stop dams to maintain water level at Jujharghat.

Through this arrangement, water is also flowing in Bijora nullah, Tundri, Bamner and Byarma rivulets due to which nearby villages are also benefiting. Farmers on the river banks are irrigating their moong crops. Besides, wild animals of Nauradehi sanctuary are also quenching their thirst. Notably, last year Finance Minister Jayant Malaiya had laid foundation stone of Rs41.24 crore Jujhar Ghat drinking water scheme at Damoh.
