No permanent power-cut schedule implemented: MP Power Company

The MP Power Management Company on Thursday clarified that no permanent power-cut schedule has been implemented in the State. Power has been cut only in some areas temporarily to maintain balance between demand and supply.

According to Managing Director of MP Power Management Company and Chairman of all 3 Power Distribution Companies in the State, Manu Shrivastava, power generation has been affected due to shortage of water in reservoirs following weak monsoon. Power generation is also less in State’s thermal power plant due to lack of coal supply. Coal supply to State’s thermal power plants is expected to normalise in one-two days. Power consumers in the State have been urged to exercise restraint.

Manu Shrivastava said that presently, only 1,950 MW against allotted 3,735 MW is being received by the state from Central Sector’s NTPC and DVC. Meanwhile, only 600 MW power is being generated against 1,520 MW from Indira Sagar and Omkareshwar hydel power projects due to less water in reservoirs. Madhya Pradesh gets 826.5 MW power from Sardar Sarovar power project against which only 250 MW power is being received.

Madhya Pradesh Power Generating Company’s thermal power plants are also unable to generate adequate power. At present, these plants are generating 1,300 MW power and hydel plants 400 MW against the installed capacity of 860 MW.

According to the company, coal supply to thermal power plants is expected to noramlise in 1-2 days. Following this, thermal power plants will start functioning to full capacity. The 600 MW unit of the company’s Singaji Thermal Power Project has started generation from the night of August 20. Power generation will also start soon in the 660 MW unit of JP Nigari.
