This would be for the first time in the history of Madhya Pradesh that no Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) would be signed during the Global Investors’ Summit (GIS).
Instead of MoUs, the Government is interested in inviting or attracting investment in the state. Sources claim that several proposals regarding investments have been received and the figure of actual investment might double the figure of MoUs signed last year.
The GIS is being held at Indore from October 8 to 10. By now, the State government had been stressing on the number of MoUs and the total investment in rupees coming to the State in terms of MoUs.
However, this time the scene is quite different. Neither Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan nor the officials are interested in signing of MoU with industrial houses or companies.
Principal Secretary in Industry department Mohammed Sulaiman told ‘The Pioneer’ that it has been decided this time that no MoUs would be signed during the GIS 2014.
Notably, last year in the GIS held in Indore the State government had claimed that the MOUs worth Rs 3.56 lakh crore had taken place. However, the government lacks the information regarding how many MoUs were materialized so far.
In the past, the main Opposition in the State, Congress, had time and again raised the issue alleging that the State Government was out for publicity only with the help of GIS by spending crores of rupees, but the outcome is nil.
