Seven street dog puppies lost their lives one after another in few days. The reason of their deaths is still unknown.
Bitches from two different street dog families had given birth to total 7 puppies, which there were rearing at a vacant plot at Vikas Tyagi's house in Dharnaka, Mhow. The puppies had grown 2 months-old and were playful; but suddenly, they started dying one after another at a day interval, and at last, the last puppy also lost its life.
Few people said there might be an act of poisoning by somebody; but one of the animal lovers said that the immune system of street dogs' puppies is very weak and they are attacked by 9 different types of air-borne viruses, and therefore, a 9x1 vaccine is given to the puppies so that could fight any infection. Locals demanded that presently, there is no scheme of Government or dog puppies care homes for the care of street dog puppies; and therefore, the government should start a helpline number for puppies so that those who are animal lovers can call and get the street dogs vaccinated.
Presently, there are cow shelters for cows, zoo for monkeys and forest areas for snakes, where people can leave these animals if they are found in distress; but there is no such place for street dog puppies.
There are various NGOs for reporting to police any cruelty done to dogs but there is no such NGO which can take care of street dog puppies. Interestingly, Mhow has also got a Government Veterinary College, from where thousands of veterinary doctors take degree to cure animals and which is spread in several acres, still the veterinary college has also no such facility to look after the stray puppies.
When ThePioneer asked the dean of veterinary college, M K Mehta, he said, “presently we have no such facility to take care of stray puppies and we have no funds also, but if the people help us we will surely start a helpline number for street dogs puppies so that people can inform us about them as we have enough land space to keep them but for this people should also help us”.
“We will vaccinate and take care of the puppies till it is grown up. It is to be noted that there are several localities and colonies coming up in the towns and cities and such people can adopt puppies from us for the security of their colonies. We will also do sterilization of such puppies when they are gown up so they can't do reproduction”, he said.
He further said, “It is to be noted that people are spending thousands of rupees to maintain the foreign breed dogs it will be good if such people adopt this fully vaccinated street dogs from us”.
