No ‘ideal' parent or child: Dr Jyotsana Jain

Published on:

There is no 'ideal' parent or child, and parenting must adapt to each child's unique needs, emphasized Dr Jyotsna Jain, Head of Psychiatry at BMHRC, during her keynote address at the annual function of Sian International School on Sunday.

As the Chief Guest and Expert Speaker, Dr Jain discussed the evolving challenges in parenting, noting that factors such as shrinking family support, increasing screen time, misinformation, and early-onset puberty are affecting children’s well-being.

She highlighted post-pandemic concerns like rising internet addiction, virtual autism, and emotional struggles, urging parents to adjust their approach accordingly.

Dr Jain stressed the importance of quality over quantity in the time spent with children, promoting resilience by allowing them to experience failure and teaching delayed gratification.

She also encouraged outdoor activities like sports and nature walks, fostering kindness, and nurturing children’s spiritual and cultural connections to help them navigate today’s complex world.

In closing, Dr Jain reinforced that raising well-rounded children requires a balanced and mindful approach, rather than chasing unrealistic ideals.
