NK Chouhan set to become State BJP chief: UAD Minister

Urban Administration and Development (UAD) Minister of the State Kailash Vijayvargiya said on Sunday that senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Nandkumar Singh Chouhan is all set to become the State BJP chief.

Vijayvargiya, who came to celebrate Raksha Bandhan at an old age home here, while replying to query by mediapersons said, “The appointment of Nandkumar Singh Chouhan to the post remains a mere formality now.” Replying to a query by Dwarka Peeth Shankaracharya Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati, he said that the Shankaracharya should give statements in accordance to his dignity. In response to question, Vijayvargiya said that he was ready for the coming Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association (MPCA) elections. He also claimed that the BJP would emerge victorious in the coming civic body elections in the State.

As sitting State BJP president Narendra Singh Tomar was elevated to the rank of a Cabinet Minister in the Narendra Modi Centre, the next obvious question was: Who will fill-in the post of the State party presidentIJ When Shah was nominated as BJP national president by the Parliamentary Board on July 9, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan paid him a courtesy call along with Tomar and recommended the name of MP from Khandwa seat Nandkumar Singh Chouhan as the next State party president. State BJP leaders were expecting the name of Nandkumar Singh Chouhan to be declared in the next few days. However, the appointment of the state chief was delayed as the appointment of new BJP President Amit Shah was officially not ratified as party national president by the BJP national council.

In the meantime, there were other names that started making rounds in the political circles. Nandkumar Singh Chouhan would be the clear choice if the national leadership wants Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to carry on with full government and organisational powers in the State.
