Tunes and rhythms of the classical music left the Bhopalites enthralled by world renowned classical performers.
A well noted sitarist of the country Niladri Kumar and distinguished tabla player Sanju Sahai gave spontaneous performances before the Bhopalites here on Monday at Ravindra Bhavan Auditorium, Bhopal. They performed at a classical programme ‘Naadswaram- 3’. The programme was organised to observe the 87th birth anniversary of Guru Bal Gobind Shandalya.
Notably, Niladri Kumar is well known for his innovations in the classical music. Kumar has created a unique instrument, the “zitar”, which is a combination of sitar and guitar. The concept initiated from a traveling sitar, which was modified by Kumar to create rock guitar sound out of it. Kumar reduced the number of strings on the instrument from 20 to five. He also added an electric pickup inside the instrument so that it would sound more like a guitar. Sitar player Niladri Kumar, the man behind the zitar and some memorable new-age Bollywood numbers, is the latest edition to the young crop of musicians with a difference.
He played the Alap Jod Jhala and other tunes in different ragas making the audience mesmerized with the classical tunes over sitar.
The performance was followed with the Tabla recital by Sanju Sahai. A phenomenal and outstanding Tabla player, he is well known for mesmerising and captivating his audience with his power, virtuosity and complete spontaneity. Sanju presented kayde, rele tukde leaving the audience spell bind with the performance.
The programme was a mass treat for the classical music lovers of the city as they witnessed two young and well renowned classical maestros together at one stage.
