The National Green Tribunal (NGT) central zone bench Bhopal permitted the Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) to establish a fire brigade at Pandit Uddhwadas Mehta Park located near Unani Shafakhana.

The NGT granted the permission to construct the fire brigade on October 1 for five years. Judicial member of NGT Dalip Singh and expert member Bikram Singh Sajawan while passing an order over the proposal by Jalil Mohammad Khan instructed the BMC to construct the fire brigade at Pandit Uddhwadas Mehta Park near Unani Shafakhana. Singh instructed the corporation to construct the boundary wall and parking lot in 5.2 X 1.7 meter.

NGT granted an expenditure of `1 lakh from corporation fund and public participation. Moreover, an additional expenditure of `2 lakh is also granted by NGT for the construction of the building. NGT gave instructions to make proper arrangements of parking at the building so that there would be no obstacle in the traffic movement.

It is noteworthy that in the past days the cases of fire accidents increased in the old city area. To overcome such problem, the fire brigade near Unani Shafakhana will be established so that immediate action could be taken at the time of accident.

Under the scheme by BMC a proposal by the locals of the area was submitted to NGT over which the permission was granted on October 1 by judicial member Dalip Singh and expert member Bikram Singh Sajawan of National Green Tribunal.
