Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya is organising the next chapter of its popular series, Museum Popular lecture on Friday at Rock Art conference hall from 4.30pm. In this lecture Prof David R Syiemlieh (Chairman, Union Public Service Commission, New Delhi) will speak on ‘North East India : Periodization : Freedom Struggle : Integration’.

The lecture will be chaired by SN Choudhary (Rajiv Gandhi Chair, Barkatullah University, Bhopal).

In his lecture Prof Syiemlieh will be presenting an arrangement of three aspects of the history of the North East.  In this lecture he has revisited what he had earlier penned on periodization, the freedom struggle and integration to give a sense of some threads of the fascination region, whose history requires attention.

After a general discussion on the periodization of Indian history, the discussion is directed on issues of applying the broad divisions in time of Indian history to the North East. The second theme of the lecture is a brief account of the extent of participation of the North East in the freedom struggle. Taking this further the lecture concludes with the integration of the region into the larger India state. The time frame of the discussion will largely cover the ‘modern’ phase of its history and till 1947.
