Non-metro cities have witnessed faster growth in sale of new generation cars and multi-purpose vehicles (MPVs), General Motors India Vice President P Balendran said on Friday while launching new multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) Chevrolet Enjoy.
"The scenario has changed considerably now. last year, 65 per cent sales were recorded in non-metro cities and only 35 per cent in metros, Balendran remarked pointing towards the growing potential of automobile sector in such cities.
Referring to the features of the new GM product, he said that an Enjoy car offers a spacious, stylish and comfortable ride. With Flexi-Smart seven or eight occupant seating variants, it addresses the growing need for a comfortable, spacious and stylish MPV for family travel and business use.
It comes with a choice of diesel and petrol engines and has been tailored for Indian driving conditions and consumers.
According to Balendran, "GM India achieved substantial localization at the start of regular production of the Enjoy, which is unprecedented for a global vehicle manufactured in India. This is significant not only for the local economy, but also benefits buyers through a lower cost of ownership as a result of lower parts prices and the ready availability of spare parts."
Balendran further said that the Enjoy has a length of 4,305 mm, a width of 1,680 mm, a height of 1,750 mm and a wheelbase of 2,720 mm, which match medium to high-end family sedans. Enjoy is available in six exciting exterior colours: velvet red, switchblade silver, summit white, caviar black, linen beige and sandrift grey.
The petrol version of the vehicle comes with four-cylinder 1.4-litre engine with starting price of Rs5,62,586 up to Rs7,16,669.
The diesel version comes with 1.3 litre engine whjich delivers maximum power of 4,400 rpm. The starting price of diesel version is Rs6,85,444 up to Rs8,19,050.
