New details emerge in Raja Raghuvanshi murder case

In a significant development in the murder case of Indore resident Raja Raghuvanshi, new evidence has emerged that points to a calculated conspiracy involving Raja’s wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, and her alleged lover, Raj Kushwaha. The gruesome murder, which occurred during what was initially believed to be a honeymoon trip, is now being investigated as a contract killing. Raja’s decomposed body was found in a gorge in Meghalaya on June 2, sparking a complex investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.

The police have gathered a wide array of physical and digital evidence that implicates Sonam, Raj Kushwaha, and several others in the crime. Forensic analysis has revealed crucial pieces of evidence, including a blood-stained shirt belonging to one of the accused, Akash, which was found to contain Raja’s blood. Additionally, Sonam’s raincoat, which also bears blood traces, is undergoing forensic examination. The murder weapon, a khukri (a curved blade), has been recovered and is being analyzed, alongside other blood-stained clothing worn by another accused, Anand. Fingerprints from the accused have been found on several items, including the murder weapon and Raja’s personal belongings.

Investigators have also uncovered substantial digital evidence linking the suspects. Mobile phones and other digital devices used by the accused have provided critical insights into the case. Call detail records show active communication between Sonam, Raj Kushwaha, and the three hired killers before, during, and after the murder. Mobile phone location data places all the involved parties near the crime scene on May 23, the day Raja was killed. In addition, CCTV footage from 42 different locations has been obtained, tracking the movements of Sonam, Raja, and the suspects throughout Meghalaya, giving investigators a visual timeline of the crime.

Witness testimonies further support the investigation. Hotel owners have confirmed bookings made by the accused, while a signed rental record for the scooter used by the couple has been collected. Photocopies of Aadhaar cards and other IDs provided by the suspects at various lodges corroborate their presence. Train and flight tickets matching the travel timeline of the suspects have been obtained, and three hired killers have reportedly confessed verbally during preliminary interrogations, detailing their roles in the murder.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Vivek Syiem, leading the investigation, stated that there is substantial evidence to suggest that Sonam and Raj Kushwaha were the masterminds behind the murder. The investigation reveals a chilling plot, with the murder disguised as a tragic accident during a honeymoon, allegedly orchestrated due to their romantic involvement.

However, despite the significant breakthroughs, investigators are still working to connect several missing links. Sonam’s personal mobile phone, which could potentially contain incriminating evidence such as chats, photographs, or call logs, has not yet been recovered. Similarly, the phones of other suspects and certain clothes worn during the crime remain unaccounted for. Officials are also yet to trace the alleged Rs 20 lakh payment for the murder and map the precise escape routes and hideouts used by the accused after the crime.

As the investigation continues, the authorities are working tirelessly to consolidate evidence and build a strong case against all those involved in the brutal murder of Raja Raghuvanshi.
