Enraged over the demand of new clothes for Eid, a 30-year-old married woman was set ablaze by her husband at Annu Nagar under Nishatpura police station area on Sunday evening.
Police said the victim, Sufia Khan, had a fight with her husband Raja Khan over purchasing new clothes for Eid. The fight turned nasty after victim’s husband set her ablaze and escaped from the spot.
Hearing shriek of help, the neighbours and family members rushed to rescue her and immediately brought her to Hamidia hospital. After the preliminary investigation police have registered a case against the accused and have started further investigation.
The victim has sustained 70 per cent burns and is undergoing treatment at Hamidia hospital. The victim is not in a condition to record her statements and family of the victim has lodged a complaint against the accused, told the police.
The chances of the survival are less and till the filing of the report the condition of victim remained critical. The couple has three children and the victim was demanding new clothes for her and her children but the request went unheeded and the whole episode in a tragic manner.
Police said that the statement of the victim would be important which area yet to be recorded as based on the statements made by victim’s parents investigation has been started but the correct details could be provided by the victim only.
