New advanced laparoscopic machine installed at BMHRC

A new advanced laparoscopic surgery machine has been installed at Bhopal Memorial Hospital and Research Centre (BMHRC)’s gastro surgery department, improving access to complex, minimally invasive procedures for patients.

The machine enables laparoscopic bariatric surgery, liver surgery, fundoplication and complex intestinal surgeries—procedures previously unavailable at the institute. It will reduce patient discomfort and recovery time.

BMHRC already performed surgeries for hernia, appendix, gall bladder, and intestines. With this upgrade, the hospital’s treatment capabilities now match those of high-end private centres.

Dr Manisha Srivastava, acting director of BMHRC, said these surgeries—costing lakhs in private hospitals—will be provided free of charge to gas-affected patients.

She added that the machine also allows surgeries to be recorded for research, which will help medical teams document cases and improve future treatment protocols.
