Drafting of net metering policy and rules to promote solar power generation by setting up plants at rooftops and other vacant places on the premises of offices of government, institutions, industries and private sector is in the final phase. For this, Energy Development Corporation has been appointed as nodal agency. After implementation of the policy, any user or institution can connect power generated in the premises with grid of Power Distribution Company under net metring. Export metres will be installed for exporting power to the grid and import metres to gauge consumption of power by the grid. Consumer will have facility to submit bills in accordance with difference in counting of both the metres. After consuming power for its requirement, an institution or user can export surplus power from his plant to the grid. Entire power generated during holidays in institutional sector can be exported to the grid.
