Gross negligence has been witnessed in the work of Narmada water supply pipeline laying. The vendors assigned with the work have not used copper wires while laying of water supply line which would consume time and losses in the future projects in which digging work would be a prominent part.
The copper wires were meant for the detection of the exact location of the water supply pipeline but as they were not used digging work without damaging these supply pipelines would be a difficult job in the future projects of the city.
The undergoing works would definitely create hurdles for the future public utility projects by increasing the time and money spent on these mammoth projects.
While talking to ‘The Pioneer’ over the issue, Chief Engineer of BMC Sunil Shrivastava said that these are inevitable issues and are raised with every development project and it is a normal process which might occur in the future projects also.
When the question of using copper wires for detection of water supply pipelines was asked, initially he expressed ignorance on the issue of the implanting of copper wire with the Narmada water supply pipelines which were meant for easy detection of the water supply pipelines as the pipeline are of high grade polymer and it would become difficult to detect these water supply pipelines once they are laid and the problems of digging without proper planning and information about the network of the existing water supply line has been witnessed across every area of the city where the digging work was done and Ashoka Garden was one of the worst affected areas.
Instead of finding and providing solution for the problem he went specific and gave example of Ashoka Garden locality which faced maximum problems in terms of broken pipeline due to the digging work of Narmada water supply line.
He said that the area is too small and the residents are aware of the existing water supply pipeline and could help themselves but it is irony that he was not aware of more than two dozen leakages which occurred in just two colonies of the locality during the digging work and the negligent work of contractors kept the residents quenching.
laying work of around 450 km of Narmada water supply pipeline has been completed. The loss which would be incurred could not be gauged at the moment due to escaping an easy and simple process but in future it might hurt badly. However Shrivastava was optimist about starting of Narmada water supply line by October 2014 and regular supply would be started by December 2014.
Incessant digging work across the city has created problems for the citizens and more is in the offing once these digging works are going to settled there would be new construction and repair works which will follow soon.
The continuous work of laying of Narmada water supply pipe line has created loads of problems for the citizens. The filling work has not been done properly giving a tough time for the commuters.
With the existing broken water supply pipelines the citizens have to face scarcity of water as the repair work has to be provided by the contractor awarded with the laying work of water supply pipe line.
