Neemuch farmers develop new mean of farming from junk

Published on:

Taking note of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for Make in India, the farmers of Neemuch have developed a new mean of farming by assembling pure country-made parts of junk vehicles.

The farmers setting aside the traditional technique of farming are using what is termed as ‘Jugad’ in local terrain for farming that is proving to be much beneficial as it is not only saving time but is also economical. The technology is so good and successful that it is also attracting farmers from neighboring state Rajasthan.

Actually, some farmers of the district in order to get rid of traditional weed and to make the work of plough fields easy  manufactured a tool from junk bikes, cars and scooter parts a couple of years ago and named it Jugad. When the Jugad was brought in the fields it made the work of shovel easy and time saving. The success of the Jugad started attracting more and more farmers and the condition is such that now the farmers are using new bikes and new parts for manufacturing it. Almost all the farmers of the district have adopted this technology.

Most of the Jugad are now made on bikes as it is tested and successful. The highlight of the Jugad is that it could be attached with the bike of any company and after finishing the work the bike could again be used for its normal purpose on the roads by fixing its rear wheel that is otherwise detached for adding plough machine.

Karulal Patidar, a mechanic from Neemuch who manufactures Jugad while talking to ‘The Pioneer’ said that a machine gets ready in just 12-13 thousand rupees and it easily ploughs one beegha of land by consuming only 200 – 250 ml of petrol. The engines run by lPG or diesel also consumes this much of fuel. “Farmers are so much appetent for getting their machines ready that we are finding it hard to get time for other work and still we are not able to serve all those who are approaching us,” Patidar said.

Anil, the farmer who invented Jugad said that earlier it used to take much of time and labor to carry out plough work and I was not capable of buying tractor. One I thought of making some cheap machine and indulged in it and the result is in front of everyone. I utilized parts of a junk car and my motorcycle and invented Jugad that is a big success now.”

He said that in a couple of hours, Jugad is able to complete the daylong work of 6-7 persons; thus saving time and manpower.

With the changing times traditional farming methods have also underwent changes in this scenario Jugad could be a good substitute as it is economical and time saving. The government should pay attention over it and could bring it with changes to make available to the farmers.
