Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Babulal Gaur on Thursday said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is likely to win 230-240 seats on its own while the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is all set to form the Government at the Centre.
Gaur in a statement here said, “The whole nation particularly the Hindi speaking States, are inundated by the ‘Modi wave’. As the Congress has become ‘too old’ and it depends on a particular family, people want to dethrone the age-old party.” The octogenarian former chief minister observed that in Madhya Pradesh, the saffron party would also increase its tally and it is expected to win at least 23 seats while the Congress would be reduced to six from 12 which they won in 2009.
Even stalwarts such as Union Ministers Kamal Nath and Jyotiraditya Scindia are insecured due to anti-incumbency and Modi factors.
In Bhopal, where the BJP gave ticket to a relatively unknown face Alok Sanjar, the party would win over one lakh votes against the Congress candidate PC Sharma.
He said if the NDA forms the Government at the Centre under the prime ministership of Narendra Modi, then it would bring about a revolutionary change in the Indian political spectrum. Besides, presence of the NDA Government at the Centre would be beneficial to the BJP-ruled States as it would be easy to get central aids which is not possible now due to “step motherly” stance by the Congress-led UPA.
“The Congress will be defeated in this general election owing to spiralling prices and unbridled corruption which broke all records thus far. These two issues will be the decisive factor for the downfall of the Congress,” the veteran leader opined.
To a query about the defection of three Congress MlAs and other leaders to the BJP rank in Madhya Pradesh recently, Gaur said it would definitely consolidate the BJP in the State. Besides the Modi wave, the development work of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan would also cast impact on electorates in this election, he added.
