Reacting to the punishment to a police constable on the charge of checking the vehicle of a BJP legislator, a delegation of National Centre for Human Settlements and Environment (NCHSE) Helpline comprising former Chief Secretary Nirmala Buch, former DGP Arun Gurtoo, Narendra Prasad, lS Hardenia and Pradip Nandi on Friday met Home Minister Babulal Gaur and registered their protest.

The delegation informed the Minister that it is unfortunate that a police personnel discharging his duties earnestly was punished for stopping the vehicle of MlA Satish Malviya. The vehicle had black film on the glasses, against the Supreme Court ruling. Besides another vehicle accompanying the vehicle having tinted glass had no registration number plate.

The delegation informed the Minister that it would be demoralizing for not only the concerned policeman who was doing his duty but for the entire police force if the people’s representatives themselves do not follow rules and get away with it.

The Minister was also informed that Bhopal Police had made a presentation on Road Safety and Traffic Management in the meeting of NCHSE Environment Helpline held on October 17, 2015, in which the efforts of Bhopal Police on traffic safety was elaborated. However, Bhopal Traffic Police officers present explained various bottlenecks in implementation of the Traffic Rules, especially due to violation of traffic rules by the VIPs, which is increasing over time. Delegation apprised the Minister that NCHSE Environment Help line is committed to take up the issues of traffic violation by the people irrespective of their status in the society/ community.

The delegation requested the Minister to revert the punishment of line attachment of Samsher Singh. Gaur said he agrees with the concerns and favours the opinion of punishment for traffic rule violator irrespective of their status. As for immediate action he spoke to the Traffic SP and ordered him to put Singh back on traffic duty again immediately.
