Nation comes first, then comes party: Nandkumar

Nation is above all and this is also the ideological commitment of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Nation comes first and then comes the party, said BJP Madhya Pradesh president and MP Nandkumar Singh Chouhan.

Chouhan while addressing the party workers in Tikamgarh during a training session on Sunday said, “BJP has defined the nationalism on ground since the establishment of Janasangh, in fact the establishment of Janasangh was done for the nationalism. The fierce personality of Shyama Prasad Mukherjee was compelled to form the nationalist party due as he was not satisfied with the then prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru’s policies. Mukherjee happened to be the youngest vice chancellor of the country and he could not tolerate the policies of Nehru. He resigned from the cabinet of Nehru on the issue of nationalism because Nehru was not having any ideological vision over internal security and separatism.”

Chouhan further said that Mukherjee strongly opposed Nehru’s policies in order to give shape to one symbol, one constitution and one premier in Jammu and Kashmir. If today Jammu and Kashmir is integral part of the India than the credit of this goes to Mukherjee who laid down his life for nation’s integrity and lead the agitation against the permit system in the then Jammu and Kashmir. This was the first big agitation of Bharatiya Janasangh in that Mukherjee laid down his life for national integrity but the agitation forced the government to cancel the permit system, he added.

He said that we have to move forward the ideological vision of our former leaders and we should take inspiration from their sacrifice and austerity. Our concern over nation has remained clear right from Janasangh to BJP. We strongly support justice to all and equal chances to all and would always remain so, he added.
