Narmada water is potable: MP Pollution Control Board

Published on:
Water in the Narmada river has been found of A category - that is worth drinking - at all places in check conducted by Madhya Pradesh Pollution Control Board. This A category has been reported even at spots where B category water - that is worth of bathing - was found last years, thanks to public awareness programmes. The board is conducting monthly check on 31 points to assess environmental status. The board has undertaken an intensive plantation drive at Punasa on August 4.
First time in the country, sensors and cameras have been installed on the spots to check smoke emitting from industrial chimneys and water pollution and an environment monitoring centre has been set up at Bhopal for monitoring. The centre immediately notices and takes action against industries even in case of any tacit effort to cause pollution.  Water and air pollution level is lower in the State as compared to other states because of this monitoring mechanism.
The world is worried over plastic waste management. Ten thousand metric tonne plastic waste has been disposed off in seven cement units in MP after the system implemented. Plastic takes 500 years to dispose off completely. It causes severe adverse effects in environment and in case of being eaten by animal.  The board has constituted special cells in districts and distributed free booklets for creating public awareness.
Pilgrims in Simhastha-2016 got good quality water only because of constant monitoring of water quality in the river Kshipra at four places. The board at its state office monitored water quality by installing a mega screen and did all necessary action for improvement in water quality, with the help of district administration. E -waste collection centres, one recycle and dismantler have been set up in five cities Indore, Bhopal, Gwalior, Ujjain and Jabalpur.
