The Narmada-Shipra River linking campaign Yatra would be launched from rural Indore’s Ujjayini on May 14, BJP MP and State president Narendra Singh Tomar would launch the drive while chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan would concluded the Yatra on May 29, in a grand function at Ujjain.

Bharatiya Janata Party – Madhya Pradesh spokesman Vijendra Singh Sisodia in a statement here on Tuesday said that with the launching of Narmada and Shipra rivers linking project in the State the campaign of river linking has been initiated in the country.

Sisodia said, “The Narmada -Shipra linking would signify the age old saying of the Malwa region ‘pag-pag roti, dag-dag neer’ (bread and water at every step). The face of the Malwa that faces acute water shortage would also change with this project.” He further said that during the Yatra senior party leaders including former chief minister Sunderlal Patwa, MP Kailash Joshi, national general secretary Thanwarchand Gehlot, laxminarayan Pande, Vikram Verma, Satyanarayan Jatiya, MP Sumitra Mahajan and others would participate and would provide guidance.

He said that the district wise programme of the Yatra has been finalized, and a in-charge for every day has been named.

When the Yatra would reach a district, 2 to 5 sub Yatra’s would be taken out in the district that would merge with the main Yatra. In this manner about 50 to 60 sub Yatras would merge in the main Yatra.

A life size portrait of Goddess Narmada would be mounted on the Narmada chariot besides a grand urn filled with Narmada water during the Yatra.

The Narmada water urn would be accorded welcome at all the places it would reach, he added.

He said that the district and Mandal presidents of the party have geared up for the welcome of the Yatra.
