In order to make Narmada river free of pollution, an ambitious ‘Narmada Namami’ project would be started in Indore division soon. Under this project, all the villages, towns located on the embankment of Narmada River in Indore division would be made open defecation free on priority basis. This would be followed by a mammoth plantation drive on both sides of Narmada River on both private as well as government lands within a distance of one km from the Narmada River. Under the project, a pathway would also be developed along the Narmada River under Narmada circuit.

This was informed by Indore Divisional Commissioner Sanjay Dube in a conference of collectors of Indore division.

Shedding light on the objectives of Narmada Namani project, Dube directed collectors of the district concerned to chalk out a work plan for carrying out the proposed works in their respective districts under the project and accordingly construct latrines in all villages and urban areas adjoining Narmada River, install sewerage treatment plants in towns on requirements and thereafter, plant saplings on both government and private lands on both sides of the river for its environment conservation. Besides he also asked them to work on developing pathways alongside Narmada River and promote organic farming in villages adjoining the river.
