The lost prosperity and glory of Malwa-Nimad region will be revived by Narmada-Kshipra River link project, said Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State president Narendra Singh Tomar on Tuesday.
Tomar said this while inaugurating the Narmada-Kshipra Sangam Kalash Yatra at Ujjaini village in Indore. The yatra marks beginning of Narmada-Kshipra river link project.
Initiating the yatra after a pooja ceremony, Tomar and former chief minister Kailash Joshi congratulated the people of Malwa-Nimad region for the project.
“The river-linking project was initiated by former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee to put an end to floods and droughts in the country. But, Congress put this ambitious project in cold storage after coming into power in 2004. Even the apex court of the country had directed the Centre to initiate the project but nothing was done,” Tomar said.
“However, the initiative to link Narmada-Kshipra taken by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has given a push to river-linking project. This initiative will facilitate irrigation and will be also instrumental in supply of drinking water to towns and cities of the region,” he said. Tomar also mentioned that the project is not only significant religiously but will also prove to be a landmark in terms of economic development of the region.
Addressing the people on the occasion, Senior BJP leader and Bhopal MP Kailash Joshi said that under the leadership of chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, BJP has broken new grounds in expanding green revolution.
“The goal of round the clock electricity in every village and water in every field is now being realised. Even important is the fact that the State Government has not imposed any new tax on people to turn this into a reality,” Joshi, also a former chief minister of the state said on the occasion.
Targeting the Congress-led UPA Government, he further said that it has proved to be the most inefficient and most corrupt government in history of the country.
“The people are now completely fed up of the Congress government and they will give a response to it by kicking it out of power in coming elections,” he said.
