Round, smooth, rough, white, vividly coloured stones of various shapes and sizes formed by friction of flowing water found near rivers, ponds and streams have fascinated many artists around the globe.

Pramod Sharma, who is exhibiting his stone art at country’s most feted Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai, says, “My love for stones made me a sculptor.”

Sharma is a modeller by profession at Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sanghralaya or National Museum of Mankind situated at Bhopal. An alumnus of Government Institute of Fine Arts, Gwalior, and MS University, Baroda, he said, “From art school till date I have made many sculptures, some figurative and some depicting abstract concepts, respecting the freedom and soul of stone helping nature to express itself through me, without forcing myself to it.”

He has distinction of exhibiting his sculptor art MP Kala Parishad, Bhopal, Exhibition Hall Pushp Baugh Baroda, Khajuraho Festival MP.

He said, “Today when I see a stone or start working on it I do not have any fixed idea or figure to work on. The shape, colour, beauty of stone captures my thought process and hands, takes me into unknown direction and make me express what it wants. Result may be anything a figure or an abstract concept. For me, it is difficult to classify or put them into words. As art pieces have value of their own and beauty lies in the eyes of beholder. During creativity both processes occur sometimes I am able to express what I feel and experience and sometimes new experiences are formed which rejuvenate me.”
