My father has my full support: Diggy's son

Congress MlA Jaiwardhan Singh on Thursday said that his father and party general secretary Digvijay Singh’s plan to re-marry was a personal matter and extended full support to him.

“I think it is a highly personal matter about which I would not like to say anything,” the MlA from Raghogarh constituency said, adding, however, he would like to say that his father has his full support.

Sixty-seven year old Digvijay had admitted on Wednesday on micro-blogging website Twitter that he was in a relationship with TV anchor Amrita Rai, who has filed for a mutual consent divorce from her first husband.

Jaiwardhan, who studied in the US, was elected last year to the State assembly from Raghogarh constituency in Guna district, from where Digvijay was elected for the first time way back in 1977.

At the All India Congress Committee (AICC) briefing in New Delhi, Finance Minister P Chidambaram steered clear of questions whether Digvijay Singh’s announcement has caused an embarrassment to the Congress.

“I do not comment on the private life of persons whether belonging to other parties or the Congress. It should be best left to the person concerned,” he said.
