Concerned over the draft of the New Education Policy, Muslim intellectuals held a meeting here on Saturday at the Muslim Education Society (MES) office, the meeting was presided over by Bhopal Shahar Qazi Maulana Syed Mushtaq Ali Nadwi while Hyderabad based Muslim Educational, Social and Cultural Organization – Arabic language and English Education Foundation (MESCO-AlEEF) office bearer Syed Mujib-ud-din was the keynote speaker.
MES – MP expressed its concern over the proposed New Education Policy, 2016 and said that this is against the spirit of secular fabric of constitution of India. It is an attempt to impose Hindu culture in the name of education which is not acceptable to Muslims and other compatriots.
Mujib-ud-din in his address on the occasion said that the draft of the New Education Policy is very dangerous for minorities and our new generation will be at great loss if it is implemented as such. The Union HRD ministry has sought suggestions on the draft by September 30, 2016 to which we have to respond in a tactful manner so that our children do not suffer, he added.
Shahar Qazi Syed Mushtaq Ali Nadwi said, “First we should aware the community with the pros and cons of the New Education Policy and should get suggestions from the educated class after that we should register our objections and give our suggestions to the government within the time frame fixed by it. If the things could be sorted out through talks then it’s best, else the legal option is also open and we would consider that,” he added.
It was decided in the meeting that a signature campaign would be launched and a target of one lakh signatures was set for that besides the community would be made aware through newspapers, through Imams and Muezzins of mosques and managements of minority school and colleges. All this would be done in the next week only.
Notably, in the proposed New Education Policy draft instead of Indian History, Ancient Indian Philosophy with Yoga and Vedas has been proposed. Emphasis has been given on Sanskrit education. The policy contains many such aspects which are not acceptable to Muslims since Hindu nationalism has been highlighted in it. Although, it has been mentioned that equal opportunities would be provided to all the communities but by accepting it in the present form will damage the interest of the Muslim community. It will also pose a serious challenge to Constitution of India.
