MP's move to restore 'lotus' logo to KVs

Published on:

Member of Parliament from Bhopal Alok Sanjar would soon knock at the door of the Centre to get back 'lotus' logo for the Central Schools (Kendriya Vidyalaya - KV). Sanjar, addressing the gathering of the Kendriya Vidyalaya old boys association here on Tuesday night at Hotel Noor-us-Sabah palace, asked whether other members remembered what the logo of the school was when they used to study, and the unanimous reply was 'lotus'.

Sanjar a pass-out of 1981 batch of KV 1 at Maida Mill then said, "When we used to study in the KV, the logo of the school was 'lotus' that used to be printed on batch, bag and tie etc and we all used to adore it. But during the Congress rule when late Arjun Singh was the Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister, the logo was changed with bad intention as the lotus is also the symbol of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)."

Sanjar further said, "At that time the Congress was in power and we were not so strong and thus, we could not oppose that move. But now as I am an MP and my party is also in power at the Centre and the State, so I would soon write to HRD Minister Smriti Irani and would demand from her to reverse the then Congress Government's decision and restore lotus symbol to the KVs."

The gathering all former students of the KV supported Sanjar and lauded his move. Sanjar, later talking to 'The Pioneer' on the issue, said that when lotus is getting wide acceptance across the country, then why not the students of the KV should also get back the old logo. "The demand I am going to make is nothing to do with politics nor is it a political move. It is as simple as that old students love to get back their school's logo that was snatched when they were weak. There is no ill intent behind it; the move is with all good intents," he added.

However, it would be interesting to watch the move of the Bhopal parliamentarian in the context of saffron organisations' controversial 'Ghar Wapsi' campaign.
