The MPPSC landed into a controversy after their question paper surfaced on the internet showing a multiple choice question with states, “Should Kashmir be handed over to Pakistan?” The students who appeared for the exam found the options confusing and many were not able to respond. It also received a lot of criticism from aspirants and political leaders over the controversial question.

In the question paper which went viral on social media, the MPPSC Civil Services preliminary examination paper held on June 19 had a question about whether Kashmir, which is involved in an international dispute, should be handed over to Pakistan or not.

The two options on the MP Civil Services question paper read as follows;

A) Yes, as it will help the economic situation of India

B) No, as it will increase the demand of the Pakistan administration

According to sources, the answer key of the Madhya Pradesh civil services exam 2022 showed that the second option of the multiple-choice question was right. Regardless, the question paper sparked a row on social media, with many people slamming MPPSC for their choice of question.

People who appeared for the MPPSC preliminary examination were left confused over the Kashmir question, and said that they were not sure about how to select the correct option.

Congress leader Ajay Yadav who took objection to the question said, “Kashmir is India’s pride. It is highly objectionable to even think that Kashmir can be handed over to Pakistan to save money. Even, the correct answer is objectionable, it should not be about stopping similar demands of secession that give a better life to people of India.”

After the controversy, the Madhya Pradesh State Service Commission issued a press release saying that the second question paper of the State Service and State Forest Service Preliminary Examination-2021, General Aptitude Test, question number 48 of set - "A", question number 48 of set "B" - 11, the Commission does not agree with the question material contained in question number 36 of set "C" and question number 31 of set "D".

It has been told by the Controller of Examinations that taking suo motu cognizance of the Commission, the said question has been deleted from the second paper. Accordingly, further disciplinary action regarding the examination is being taken confidentially.
