MPPEB scam: Interim protection for Saxena

Published on:

The Supreme Court has granted interim protection against the arrest of Congress leader Sanjeev Saxena in connection with MP Professional Examination Board (MPPEB) scam. However, the court has asked Saxena to appear before the court on May 12.

Ever since, the FIR was registered against Saxena, he remained underground and kept applying for bail. Earlier, Madhya Pradesh High Court already rejected his bail plea.

In the order, the Supreme Court has clearly stated that by May 12, Saxena can apply for regular bail and the CJM court, hearing his bail plea, should remain totally uninfluenced by the fact that the apex court had granted interim protection against his arrest.

High Court’s double Bench consisting of Chief Justice Ajay Manikrao Kanwilkar and Justice KK Trivedi had rejected his bail application on May 2 while ADJ BS Bhadauria had rejected it on March 4, 2014.

STF has made Sajeev Saxena accused in four cases- police sub inspectors recruitment, constable recruitment, milk federation, food inspector recruitment and contractual teacher appointment. All examinations were conducted by Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board (MPPEB).

Earlier, CJM court had declared absconding and instructed Saxena to appear in CJM court till May 12. Sanjeev Saxena had challenged the CJM court order asking when bail petition was pending in the HC, how the CJM court could declare any one absconding.

The STF had announced a cash award of `5,000 to those giving any whereabouts of Sanjeev Saxena. The Special task force (STF) was also set to confiscate the properties of Saxena. Saxena had contested Vidhan Sabha election from Bhopal South on Congress ticket in 2013.
