MPHRC: Why patients not getting medicines

Published on:

Madhya Pradesh Human Rights Commission (MPHRC) acting on a complaint of a patient asked the management of Bhopal Memorial Hospital and Research Centre (BMHRC) that why is medicine not given to patient.

MPHRC asked the BMHRC management that why medicines are not being made available to gas victim patient suffering with Metastatic Adrenal Cortical Carcinoma whereas the Health Department of Government of India has clearly instructed to provide lysodren 500 mg tablet – Mitotane to this patient wide letter dated January 27, 2016.

Notably, the applicant Kunal Charupa has approached the Commission with the plea that his father Rajeev Charupa is not getting the prescribed medicine since last seven months and due to that his health is deteriorating whereas it is the duty of the BMHRC that it should act on its own for the healthcare of Bhopal gas victims.

The Commission is of the view that the hospital management has abused the health rights of the applicant by not purchasing the medicine prescribed to him. The Commission asked the hospital management that when the medicine was prescribed by the BMHRC itself then why it is not made available since last seven months whereas the primary aim of the BMHRC is to treat Bhopal gas victims.

The MPHRC has also informed the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) that the BMHRC is a central government institution and it is not complying with the orders of the Health Department of Government of India that has instructed the BMHRC to make available lysodren 500 mg tablet – Mitotane to this patient wide letter dated January 27, 2016 to the patient.
