Madhya Pradesh Human Rights Commission (MPHRC) has on Wednesday sought detailed report from the Ashoknagar’s Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) within seven days regarding the incident of lying women on dirty quilts and mattresses during a sterilisation camp at Ashoknagar district hospital.
Commission on Wednesday took cognizance over the incident of lying women on dirty quilts and mattresses during a sterilization camp held at Ashoknagar district hospital on Tuesday.
Notably, the quilts and the mattresses provided to the women were not clean during the women sterilization camp at the district hospital. The women themselves made their arrangements to return home as no transportation facility was made available by the officials. Varsha Rajput of lohadi village travelled around 20 km in an auto-rickshaw to reach home. For all these reasons, the Commission has asked the CMHO to submit a detailed report in seven days.
The Commission had in the past made several recommendations regarding the women sterilization camps, recommending that proper arrangements should be made for such camps.
Meanwhile, in another incident, Commission has on Wednesday recommended that compensation of Rs 2 lakh should be provided to the kin of the deceased prisoner of central jail, Rewa, Daddu Singh who died due to lack of proper treatment.
In its recommendation, Commission has stated that it is clear that the prisoner Daddu Singh died in want of proper treatment. The Commission did not believe in the report of jail headquarters that proper treatment was provided to the prisoner under the guidance of doctors at the Sanjay Gandhi memorial hospital but he could not be saved. This point mentioned in the report cannot be true, as the prisoner would have not died, if he had received proper treatment for a month. The government should provide the compensation of Rs 2 lakh to the family of the deceased, the recommendation added.
The Commission has stated in its recommendation that medical education department’s principal secretary should take action against the Superintendent of the Sanjay Gandhi memorial hospital, Rewa as the superintendent had referred the prisoner to the district hospital, where he was not treated properly. Commission has also sought report of the action taken against the superintendent, from the Principal Secretary.
