The Madhya Pradesh Human Rights Commission (MPHRC) has made several recommendations over the up-gradation of food facilities in midday meal so that the school students get clean and healthy food.

Commission has made the recommendations while keeping the incident of Gairatpura government school of Raisen in sight, where students are being deprived of the midday meal due to scarcity of the utensils and the incident of Damoh district, where a student was drowned while fetching drinking water from a well.

Commission has recommended that mid day meal should be served in a clean surrounding. Number of the plates, glass and the other utensils should be more than the number of the children in the school.

Proper facilities should be made regarding drinking water as well as employees should be arranged to wash the utensils.

Commission further stated that clean and fresh drinking water should be available in every school.

Notably, Commission had taken cognizance over the scarcity of utensils in a government school, Gairatpura due to which students had to put their food (chapattis) on ground.

Similarly, commission had also taken cognizance over the incident of Damoh district, where a student was drowned while fetching water from a well as the Self Help Group (SHG) did not make the drinking water available for the students.

Commission has stated that serving the food in a plate for five or six students due to scarcity of utensils is violation of their dignity.

Commission has paid special attention over the cleanliness while making the recommendations in order to keep the school students healthy.
