Taking cognisance of the media reports that a woman in Bhind was paraded naked and her hair was cut, the Madhya Pradesh Human Rights Commission (MPHRC) on Friday issued notice to Bhind Superintendent of Police (SP).

The MPHRC in its notice to Bhind SP asked as why her clothes and hair were not seized from the crime scene untill next day and that what action has been taken by the police in the case. Further, the Commission has told the SP to submit his report over the issue.

Notably, a middle-aged woman from lahar in Bhind was allegedly paraded naked and thrashed by the family members of her daughter-in-law’s family. The woman was paraded naked for over two hours by some people over a marriage-related dispute. A Ward Number 14-resident youth married his neighbour Murli Manohar Dauhre’s daughter in court in February against the wishes of the woman’s kin.

Early on Thursday, Dauhre and his relatives reached the youth’s dwelling, assaulted his parents, brother and the latter’s wife. The perpetrators of the violence were unhappy with the marriage of her daughter, said the police.

The kin of girl reached the youth’s house and after not finding the couple in the house, turned on his 45-year-old mother and thrashed her, following which they cut her hair, stripped and paraded her in the area. After the assailants escaped, the victim’s family approached the police and lodged a complaint at the lahar police station on Wednesday evening. The woman was admitted to a local hospital and later shifted to Gwalior.

Sub-divisional officer of police (SDOP) Avneesh Bansal said that there had been enmity between two families after the marriage, which had led to the incident.

He said that seven persons had been booked on charges of thrashing the woman and that the police were investigating the charge that the woman had been stripped.
