Concerned over the deaths of innocents due to bites by stray dogs, the Madhya Pradesh Human Rights Commission (MPHRC) has asked the Principal Secretary (PS) of the Urban Administration and Development (UAD) department and the Commissioner of Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) to take effective measures to stop this menace.

The MPHRC is convened and serious over the incidents of the dog-bites and deaths of innocents due to that and in order to stop it, the Commission has asked the UAD–PS to take effective measures to stop this menace.

Recently such an incident had taken place in the outskirts of the State capital in Bhensakhedi where stray dogs victimized a 10-year-old innocent girl Anushka Shakya. Similarly, nine year old Amaan was running scared of barking dogs when he was crushed to death by a passing bus. Both the incidences were prominently published in the local media.

The MPHRC took cognizance of Anushka’s father Dharmendra Shakya who approached it and illustrated his pain. The Commission acting on the complaint of Shakya clubbed it with other incidences told the BMC Commissioner to take necessary action but he failed to give proper attention over it besides the recommendations made by the Commission over the issue were also not taken seriously.

The MPHRC is of the view that effective measures should be taken in this direction so that the increasing number of stray dogs in the city and the state could be stopped besides the harms due to the increasing dog numbers on the human life could also be stopped.
