Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) criticised the State Government for its alleged failure to take proper safeguards and put in place sufficient provisions to meet flood-like situation caused by heavy rains in different parts of Madhya Pradesh.

State Congress Media department chairman Mukesh Nayak said on Friday that it was clear by meteorological department forecast and the rainfall during early phase of the monsoon that the State will receive heavy downpour. “Yet the State Government did not alert district administrations in time neither did it directed them to put in place alternative arrangements to shelter people in case of flood. It has also failed to provide proper relief to flood affected families in Sagar, Damoh and Panna districts,” he said.

“Although villages have been evacuated and people have been shifted elsewhere, there are no arrangements to provide basic necessities of the people systematically. Flood affected families are facing severe problems in accessing food and medicines. Thedistrict administration should have put in place all necessary requirements beforehand keeping in view the heavy rainfall,” he said.

He alleged that lower level officials have been deputed for the relief arrangements due to which the problems of flood affected people could not be immediately addressed. He also said that if the State Government continued with its current attitude then the condition of Sagar, Panna and Damoh could recur in many other districts of the state as the monsoon intensifies in the coming weeks.

Mukesh has urged the Chief Secretary to immediately take the command of flood relief in his hands and establish a central control room to keep vigil of flood situation and provide swift and sufficient relief to the people. He also said that Congress workers are ready to provide help in flood affected regions of the State.
