Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said that by 2027 the renewable energy potential of Madhya Pradesh will be 20 thousand megawatt. The State Government is on the path of making Madhya Pradesh the Lungs of India along with the Heart of India. Madhya Pradesh will make every possible contribution towards fulfilling all the commitments of India and the Panchamrit Mantra given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the Glasgow Conference for Climate Change. Omkareshwar Floating Solar Project is amazing.

There are currently 10 floating solar plants in the world. The Omkareshwar project will be the world's largest floating solar project to be built on water.

Chouhan was addressing the contract signing ceremony of 600 megawatt Omkareshwar Floating Solar Project and release of Energy Assessment Guide of Energy Literacy Campaign at Kushabhau Thakre international convention Hall. Chairman of Madhya Pradesh Urja Vikas Nigam Girraj Dandotiya, MLA Mandhata Narayan Patel, Principal Secretary Energy and New and Renewable Energy Sanjay Dubey and officers of various organisations working in renewable energy sector were present. Forest Minister Kunwar Vijay Shah and New and Renewable Energy and Environment Minister Hardeep Singh Dang virtually participated in the programme.

Chouhan inaugurated the programme by performing Kanya-Poojan and lighting the lamp.

The Chief Minister said that a capacity of 278 megawatt would be established in the first phase of Omkareshwar project. This project is also amazing from this point of view, as there is no need of land for the implementation of the project. As a result no one will be displaced. It is scientifically proven that the power generation in a water based project is higher than that of a land based solar project. Due to the installation of solar panels on the surface of the water, the water will not evaporate as steam.

With this, 60 to 70 percent of water will be saved. This will be equal to the drinking water of Bhopal residents for 124 days. Along with this, vegetation like algae will grow less in the water due to the installation of the plant and the water will remain potable.

Chouhan said that the emission of 12 lakh metric tonnes of carbon-di-oxide will be prevented through the project. This is equivalent to planting one crore 52 lakh trees.

The state is working in a mission mode to meet its energy needs with renewable energy by the year 2030. The state government has started the implementation of the New Renewable Energy Policy-2022. The concept of green city development is also being given shape in the state. Solar projects are in progress in Chhatarpur, Morena, Agar, Shajapur and Neemuch districts. We are also active in Kusum Yojana to make the ‘Annadata’ farmer an Urjadata as per the resolve of Prime Minister Modi. The use of solar panels is being encouraged up to the village level. Solar panels are being installed on the roofs of all government offices. By improving the land of Chambal ravines, the area will be used for solar power generation. Chouhan invited entrepreneurs and investors working in the field of renewable energy to conduct activities in Madhya Pradesh.

The Chief Minister said that problems like global warming and climate change can be faced only through public participation. Not just worrying about it, but working in this direction will bring positive results.

It is necessary to focus on saving electricity with renewable energy generation. Energy Assessment Guide of Energy Literacy Campaign has been released for this purpose. School, college students and general public will have to be trained for sensitive and responsible behavior to save electricity in the campaign.

If we are proactive in saving electricity, then electricity up to Rs 4 thousand crore can be saved. It is our responsibility to leave a safe earth for the coming generations. Only by generating electricity from solar and wind energy, saving electricity-water and reducing carbon emissions will we be able to serve the earth and be sure of a better future for the coming generation.

New and Renewable Energy and Environment Minister Shri Hardeep Singh Dang addressed the programme virtually. He said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Chouhan, the state is setting new dimensions in renewable energy as per the dreams of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. Madhya Pradesh Urja Vikas Nigam Chairman Shri Girraj Dandotia said that Omkareshwar project is a safe source of energy amidst the challenge of climate change. This will also save land, which can be used for setting up agriculture and other industries in the state.
