A historic tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed at the Chief Minister’s residence, Samatva, to solidify a long-term partnership between Madhya Pradesh and France in the realms of culture and tourism. The MoU, which aims to strengthen collaboration between the two regions, was signed by Dr. Thierry Mathou, the Ambassador of France to India; Sheo Shekhar Shukla, Principal Secretary for Tourism and Culture, Madhya Pradesh; and Akhilesh Verma, President of Alliance Française de Bhopal. This agreement, which will be in effect for three years and is extendable by mutual consent, marks a significant milestone in the cultural and tourism relationship between India and France.
The agreement is set to transform Madhya Pradesh into a major hub for cultural exchange, providing new opportunities for collaboration between India and France. It reflects the shared interests of both nations in fostering stronger cultural ties and increasing tourism exchanges, further enhancing the global visibility of Madhya Pradesh as a cultural destination.
The MoU includes several key initiatives aimed at enhancing the cultural landscape of the state. Joint cultural events such as art festivals, music and dance performances, exhibitions, film screenings, and culinary events will be organized regularly. Additionally, a dedicated Indo-French Cultural Calendar will be established to ensure a year-round exchange of cultural activities, with an emphasis on creating a rich and diverse platform for artistic expression.
Furthermore, tourism promotion materials for Madhya Pradesh will be translated into French to cater to the French-speaking audience. Special initiatives will also be undertaken to attract French tourists, with particular attention paid to developing tailored promotional strategies. To facilitate deeper engagement, tourism officials and guides will undergo training in the French language and culture, enabling them to offer a more immersive and informative experience for visitors from France.
The MoU also promises significant economic and commercial benefits, as it opens avenues for cooperation in areas such as industrial development, entrepreneurship, and the promotion of traditional crafts. The state government is hopeful that this partnership will not only enhance Madhya Pradesh's cultural prominence but also contribute to the growth of its tourism industry, particularly by attracting more visitors from France and Europe.
The signing of this MoU comes on the heels of increased diplomatic ties between India and France, following a recent visit by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to France. The relationship between the two countries has grown stronger, and this new collaboration is seen as a testament to the long-standing cordiality and trust shared between India and France. Madhya Pradesh is positioning itself as a progressive and dynamic region that is ready to play a pivotal role in the global cultural and tourism landscape.
As part of the agreement, both countries have committed to facilitating the exchange of artists, craftsmen, students, and cultural organizations. Madhya Pradesh’s local talent will be given a global stage, and French tourists will be provided with a unique cultural experience that blends the rich heritage of the state with the vibrant creativity of the international art world.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, saying, “This MoU brings us closer to realizing our vision of not only making Madhya Pradesh the cultural capital of India but also establishing it as a global hub for tourism and culture. It offers a tremendous opportunity for our artists and cultural organizations to showcase their talents internationally.”
French Ambassador Dr. Thierry Mathou also expressed his delight at the collaboration, highlighting the significance of the partnership in strengthening ties between the two nations.
He remarked, “We are pleased to establish this important collaboration with the Government of Madhya Pradesh. France places a strong focus on tourism, security, environment, and education. This MoU will further enhance the cultural exchanges between our countries and will open new opportunities in art, education, and tourism.”
The event was attended by several prominent figures, including Principal Secretary, Industries, Shri Raghvendra Kumar Singh; French Consul General Shri Jean-Marc Sere-Charlet; Political Counsellor of the French Embassy Shri Shad Joynal Abedin; and representatives from Alliance Française, alongside other officials and dignitaries. The collaborative efforts under this MoU are expected to have a profound impact on Madhya Pradesh’s cultural and tourism sectors, making it a prominent player on the international stage.
