Member of Parliament from Bhopal Alok Sanjar and MlA Surendra Nath Singh handed over cheque of Rs 1 lakh each to the families of the five youths on Monday; youths drowned in lower lake in the evening on Sunday.
Besides, the last rites of all the five youths were performed on Monday. The youths had gone for a party in the boat and while dancing the boat capsized in the lower lake.
BMC Commissioner Tejaswi S Naik who visited the spot while speaking with the media persons claimed that after receiving information necessary action is being taken by the administration. These kinds of incidents are result of negligence and security arrangements would be tightened by the lakes and ponds of the city at the earliest.
After the incident, several unauthorized boats were seized and penalized by the Bhopal Municipal Corporation on Monday.
The deceased was identified as Bittu alias Amit (17), Raja alias Kala Gaikwad (20), Vishal Meena (18), Ajay Ahirwar(18) and Shubham Meena (19). Shubham and Vishal were cousins. Ajay, Bittu and Vishal were residents of Bhoipura area while Shubham was a resident of Misrod and Raja was resident of Nehru Nagar. Bittu was a good swimmer and in a bid to save his friends drowned.
Superintendent of Police Bhopal ( North) Arvind Saxena said that the escaped youths are in a state of fear and shock and are not in position to provide the causes behind the incident. In the initial investigation it was concluded that it was an accident due to the negligence of the youths.
The boat used by fisherman was taken by the deceased and their friends and they were partying in the middle of the lower lake. Police has claimed that the youths on the boat consumed liquor which was a major reason behind the accident and in an inebriated state they started dancing, which disturbed the balance of the boat resulting into the capsize of the boat.
After the incident the massive rescue operation was launched and later the bodies were fished out.
